International exchange activities between the School of Media Design, UEH - CTD and National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (Yunlin, Taiwan)

In the 7^th International Design Conference on Integrated Interdisciplinary Innovation 2024 organized by Yunlin University of Science and Technology, particularly on the Vietnamese side, there was the participation of two delegations of lecturers and students from University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Activities under the conference were held at Yunlin University of Science and Technology, integrated with cultural experience activities in ancient cultural areas of the city.

Opening of the conference

On behalf of UEH, Associate Professor Trinh Thuy Anh - Vice Principal of UEH College of Technology and Design (UEH - CTD), Head of the School of Media Design participated in the conference as a keynote speaker. As the only representative from Vietnam, she presented on the topic "ArtTech for Social Inspiration of Acting on Sustainability" revolving around the following contents: the concept of ArtTech, ArtTech trends in the world today, and how to raise community awareness and sustainable action plans through ArtTech. The presentation received much attention and interest from global researchers and scholars at the international conference.

Also at the conference, Ms. Hoang Thi Ai Nhan - Lecturer of the School of Media Design - presented her research on one of the most popular topics: "Creativity Design of Sustainable Products for Traditional Vietnamese Craft Villages", which focused on the creative design of sustainable products for traditional weaving villages of ethnic minorities in Vietnam.

Her research helped explore the combination of convention and modernity to create products with highly cultural value while protecting the environment. Besides, she emphasized the preservation and the development of traditional craft villages that have gradually disappeared. After the conference, Ms. Hoang Thi Ai Nhan conducted field research on craft villages in Taiwan for further research collaboration in the future.

SMD students had the opportunity to interact with international professors from many countries listed as Japan, France, Indonesia, and Taiwan. Together with Yunlin University students, they participated in preparing products and displaying them at the exhibition along with many interesting academic and cultural exchange activities. Especially at this conference, SMD students were also able to present their research projects, contributing to solving practical problems related to Vietnamese Culture in the Project 1 module: Culture and Arts.

Representing K48 students of the School of Media Design, student Pham Thi Thao Quyen (from the group of Hua Thanh Ha Tung, Nguyen Gia Sang, Cao Quynh Nghi and Pham Thi Thao Quyen) demonstrated the results of her group's project on the topic "The “wife-pulling” custom - Is it cultural or harmful?": "This is one of the big milestones in my personal development path. This is not the first time I have presented in English; it is probably the first time I have discussed a controversial Vietnamese custom with international friends. The article received a lot of feedback, discussion, and opinions from Taiwanese lecturers. I am totally happy because I was able to convey the message we would like to create a bond in group discussing to find the best solution for the project."

The cultural exchange activity series to inspire students on the topic "Cross Culture" under the program related to real issues that the young generations have been concerned about. This was an opportunity for Taiwanese and Vietnamese students to work together in groups and visit religious culture and local cuisine in Baigang Ancient Town, Liu Chongxi Village etc. This activity not only allowed students to directly experience the local culture, but it also trained their ability to initiate ideas, work in teams, and communicate cross-culturally.

The international exchange activities for the delegations of lecturers and students of the School of Media Design officially ended. This was an opportunity for UEH students to interact, share learning experiences with each other, and promote cultural exchanges with international students, aiming for comprehensive development to become global citizens.
