The module uses M. Porter's competitive analysis framework, diamond model and cluster analysis framework as the basis for the lesson content. First, the module will introduce the core concepts of competitiveness, competitive advantage, and clusters. Next, it will discuss in depth the factors that determine the competitiveness of an economy or a location. direction. The economy is often understood at different levels (world, region, country, and local levels) and at different levels of development (advanced, developing, and transitional). The analytical framework will be illustrated through case studies.
Next, the module presents the applications of the competitiveness analysis framework and the diamond model in practice in Vietnam, focusing on economic strategy and economic upgrading in different areas. The course will focus a lot on the strategy of upgrading the economy at the regional and local scale in the context of Vietnam.
Finally, the module will provide in-depth discussions on different aspects of Vietnam's competitiveness through the case studies of clusters or localities. This section begins with a discussion of provincial competitiveness, followed by a discussion of regional and national competitiveness. At the end, the students will do a group project to complete the module.
