5. Course Objectives:
This course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of research methods in the social sciences, especially in the fields of economics and finance. Upon completion of the course, students will:
1. Understand research approaches and research philosophies in the social sciences.
2. Master the concepts of research design and methodology.
3. Know how to summarize theory appropriately and in relation to the research topic.
4. Apply theory to quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches.
5. Be able to write a research proposal in a standard format.
6. Understand and be aware of ethical issues involved in research.
6. Brief Description of Course Content:
This course introduces students to research approaches in the social sciences in general and in economics and finance in particular. The course will present knowledge about research approaches, research philosophies, the concept of research design, the concept of research methods. This course also equips students with an appropriate theoretical overview related to the research topic in a study; how to use theory in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed approaches; how to write a research proposal in an appropriate format, as well as consider relevant research ethics issues. The course is a combination of research design, research methods, and related research skills.
