The course Managing Technological Innovation provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the role of innovation in business strategy and organizational development. It covers the concepts and sources of innovation (internal, external, networks, and open innovation), the dynamics of technology and industry evolution (S-curves, dominant designs, disruptive innovation), as well as approaches to organizing and managing the innovation process within firms. The course also equips students with management tools such as R&D portfolio management, ecosystem mapping, technology road mapping, and scenario planning, while examining mechanisms for protecting and capturing value from innovation through intellectual property, standards, and technology-based business models. In addition, the course addresses the global and policy context, including national innovation systems, geopolitical competition, and strategic alliances, along with issues of sustainable and responsible innovation, ESG, ethical AI, and future trends in innovation.
