5. Course Objectives:
The course Numerical Methods for Boundary Value Problems presents several numerical methods related to the steady-state of differential equations, the two-point boundary value problem, and elliptic equations, as well as iterative methods for sparse, symmetric, and non-symmetric linear systems. Students will be introduced to applications of boundary value problems in real-world contexts, such as traffic phenomena and population equilibrium models. Upon completion of the course, students will have a basic understanding of the emergence of two-point boundary value problems and their classification. Additionally, students will recognize related issues such as initial values, boundary values, and initial-boundary values in practical boundary value problems.
