5. Course Objectives:

This course aims to provide students with theoretical and practical foundations in financial investment management. The focus of the course is on the financial theory and analytical framework that are useful for investment decisions. Topics include reward-risk tradeoff, asset allocation, portfolio optimization, risk diversification, capital asset pricing model, arbitrage pricing theory and multifactor models, market efficiency, term structure theories, macro- and micro-level analyses of capital markets as well as valuation approaches for financial assets such as stocks and bonds. The in-depth knowledge gained from this course equips students the ability to conduct insightful analyses, which are crucial for developing equity and bond portfolio management strategies.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course covers rigorous theories and practices in financial investment management. Students will be equipped with in-depth knowledge and and critical thinking as the sound foundation for financial portfolio management strategies. The course’s major themes include financial theories (portfolio theory, the capital asset pricing model, the arbitrage pricing theory and multifactor models, and the efficient market hypothesis, term structure theories) and analytical and managerial framework for the decision-making in investments (fundamentals of capital markets and financial instruments, arguments on the risk-return relation, macro- and industry-level environmental analyses as well as micro-valuation approaches for equity and bond markets). Furthermore, students are provided with the udpated literature on investments through research topics and quantitative demonstration of constructing investment portfolios.
