This course is designed to equip students with foundational knowledge of smart cities by exploring its key concepts, historical evolution, and the crucial role of technology in addressing urban challenges and enhancing quality of life. Students will critically analyze various models and global strategies for smart city development, enabling them to propose viable solutions tailored to specific local contexts. Additionally, the course equips students with an understanding of the structure, measurement methods, and evaluation frameworks for assessing the development level of Smart Cities, with a focus on promoting sustainable urban development, particularly in developing countries.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course serves as a foundational and essential subject for explaining to students the basic concepts of Smart City, along with the history of their development and evolution worldwide. A Smart City utilizes and applies appropriate technological solutions to efficiently address urban challenges within available and mobilizable resources, aiming toward sustainable development and improving quality of life. Students will learn and thoroughly understand smart city development strategies by studying and analyzing successful case studies globally. Throughout the development process, corresponding to various urban typologies and visions unique to each location, diverse models of smart cities have emerged. By recognizing the contextual and urban challenges of different cities, students can analyze and propose tailored approaches suitable for local conditions. The course also outlines sustainable smart city development strategies for developing countries, along with the structural framework of a smart city. To assess cities, smart city strategies, and smart city projects, students will also be guided on widely recognized global metrics and ranking systems for smart cities.
