The subject provides students with a way of thinking about methods and skills to conduct research on economic, statistical and financial topics. The main research design skill that economics students need is the ability to detect a problem and evaluate interventions to solve it in a way that contributes new knowledge and new solutions.

The research design subject will help the student identify, build and develop the research problem, design a research framework to solve that problem, turn the problem into a research question, based on the designed research framework based on the summary of theories and pre-study studies will choose the appropriate research method to conduct the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative evidence to answer the research question and finally write the research report.

This course is presented mainly using the case analysis method. Lecturers will introduce and suggest situations, readings and research papers associated with a research design process according to international practices for students to analyze, evaluate and comment. Through the analysis of the research situation, the lecturer guides the students to grasp the main contents in each topic of the subject.

The doctoral student will have to base on his/her existing research ideas applied to all subjects of the subject with each step in the research process from research problem development, research gap survey, research framework design, research method selection, data collection sample design or selection of research data collection sources according to qualitative or quantitative or mixed approach, synthesizing into research outlines in the direction of completing each step in order to create added value in terms of the quality of the research outline of the research topic that the doctoral student is pursuing.
