5. Course Objectives:

This course aims to equip students with a solid understanding of fundamental theories and concepts in intercultural communication and their applications in business contexts. It seeks to foster intercultural awareness by encouraging students to reflect on personal attitudes, cultural values, and communication preferences while analyzing challenges that arise in multicultural business environments. Through interactive activities such as discussions, role-plays, and problem-solving exercises, students will develop practical skills to apply intercultural communication strategies effectively in real-world business situations. The course also emphasizes collaborative learning, enabling students to work successfully in diverse teams while integrating reflective practices to support continuous personal and professional growth in intercultural competence.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course provides students with awareness, knowledge, and skills for intercultural communication in business contexts. It includes five chapters covering major topics in intercultural business communication, ranging from old and new fundamental theories in intercultural communication to concise and practical examples from the business world (see section 11 for details). Each chapter consists of four main sections with their following purposes:

  1. Foundation: Identifying intercultural concepts and why they matter
  2. Awareness: Recognizing personal developmental issues for reflective practice
  3. Ownership: Discovering personal preferences for communication
  4. Practice: Applying learning to take ownership in real-life situations

During the course, students participate in activities such as group discussions, role-plays, group presentations, and problem-solving exercises. These activities help students sharpen and practice the learnt knowledge about intercultural business communication. They also provide opportunities for students to develop effective communication skills in business settings.
