5. Course Objectives:

This course introduces students to major works and movements in modern British and American literature. Students will analyze modern literary texts, understand historical and cultural contexts, and apply critical thinking in interpreting themes and styles. The course aims to: (i) equip students with knowledge of literary elements, figurative language, and cultural background of selected texts; (ii) develop students’ ability to interpret and analyze literature using appropriate literary concepts; (iii) enhance skills of academic discussion, critical writing, and presentation; (iv) foster creativity and appreciation of British and American cultural heritage.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This 45-period course provides a general and critical overview of major works, authors, and movements in British and American literature. It emphasizes figurative language, elements of fiction, and the analysis of selected short stories. By studying works from representative writers, students gain insights into themes, characters, styles, and the historical–cultural contexts of the works. The course integrates theory with practice, fostering critical thinking, academic writing, and presentation skills. Upon completion, students are expected to appreciate the cultural heritage of British and American literature and relate it to modern contexts.
