5. Course Objectives:
This course helps students gain a deep understanding of political and legal theories from classical to modern times, explain the differences between them, and recognize the positive and negative impacts of each theory on the development of nations. Students will develop philosophical thinking skills, the ability to argue legal and political issues, and enhance their reading, writing, and presenting skills in a systematic way. The course also helps students improve their ability to engage in discussions, work in teams, and build political and legal viewpoints confidently and scientifically. Students will learn how to apply theory to analyze the political and legal institutions of countries, while also developing self-learning and independent research skills in both academic and professional environments.
6. Brief Description of Course Content:
The course studies how legal theories deal with major normative, ontological, and methodological legal problems, including: classical natural law theory, classical legal positivism. contemporary natural theories, contemporary legal positivism, legal realism and the critical jurisprudence movement; Marxist legal theory. The course focuses on theories of the 20th and 21st centuries because of their widespread influence on the way contemporary law is thought.
