6. Brief Description of Course Content:
This course is designed to help students expand their knowledge and improve their reading skills in a variety of topics and contexts, including Nutritional Science, Education, Geology, and Engineering. The module helps to equip students with the necessary reading comprehension skills so that students can understand short documents and do not use much academic language. Students can practice specific reading comprehension strategies such as predicting, skimming for details or finding main content, guessing meaning from situations, taking notes, and giving feedback. In addition, students can apply and develop advanced reading skills such as making inferences, identifying the author's voice and emotions, recognizing the author's attitudes and biases, identifying information sources, determining causes and effects, and understanding statistical data. Last but not least, learners are able to take individual and group responsibility while doing reading exercises and support their classmates while reading in groups.
