5. Course Objectives:
This course equips students with the skills to read academic texts effectively. Students are able to practise reading comprehension strategies and analyse text features of academic writing as well as develop critical thinking in academic reading activities. Specific strategies include identifying the genre, audience, purpose and perspective in a text, identifying arguments and supporting evidence, understanding reference lists, understanding arguments and recognising the writer's point of view. In addition, the vocabulary section focuses on improving students' ability to use vocabulary flexibly and accurately.
6. Brief Description of Course Content:
This course equip students with reading skills for academic texts. Students are able to practice comprehension strategies and analyze textual features of academic texts as well as develop their critical thinking in academic reading activities. Specific strategies include identifying genre, audience, purpose and perspective in texts, identifying arguments, and supporting evidence, understanding reading lists and references, and understanding an argument and recognizing a writer's stance. Besides, the vocabulary parts focus on improving students' ability to use vocabulary flexibly and accurately.
