5. Course Objectives:
With this course (Upper - Intermediate Writing), students will increase their knowledge about how to write four types of essays, which are cause-effects, opinions, persuasive, and summarizing essays. More importantly, they will apply note-taking skills and develop critical thinking strategies for effective essay writing in particular, and when accessing different sources of information for later research and studying in general. Finally, students will be involved in various learning activities like discussions, exploration and inquiry, cooperative group work, and group presentations to make their learning experience exciting and valuable.
6. Brief Description of Course Content:
The course helps learners:
+ increase knowledge about topics such as Nutritional Science, Education, Geology, and Engineering;
+ develop note-taking skills such as using a chart to organize notes about main ideas, and taking notes using key words and phrases
+ develop critical thinking strategies such as categorizing, analyzing, and synthesizing information
+ improve skills of Writing such as giving cause – effects, opinions – persuasive ideas, and summarizing
+ practice writing types of essays such as cause – effect, summary, opinion, and persuasive essays
+ consolidate Grammar points such as passive voice, reported speeches, adverbs phrases of reason, and adverb clauses of concession
