6. Brief Description of Course Content:

Semantics is a foundational linguistics course within the Bachelor of Arts in English Language program. It explores the nature of meaning and how language conveys meaning through words, sentence structures, and communicative contexts. Key topics include the relationship between words and meanings, sentence types and their meanings, semantic ambiguity, implicature, and the influence of context on interpretation. Through lectures, group discussions, analytical exercises, and presentations, students develop the ability to explain, analyze, and apply semantic knowledge in linguistic research, communication, and professional practice.
