5. Course Objectives:

This 3-credit module, a core component of the English Language program, provides students with foundational knowledge of both traditional and contemporary cultural aspects of the United Kingdom and the United States. Specifically, students will explore, investigate, and compare British, American, and Vietnamese cultures through an understanding of their people, customs, values, attitudes, perspectives, political systems, governments, economies, and other related aspects. Furthermore, this module equips and hones English Language students' reading comprehension, analytical, critical thinking, and research skills in socio-cultural issues. It also enhances their ability to compare and contrast these cultures with Vietnamese culture, thereby establishing a solid foundation for further language acquisition and intercultural communication.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course consists of 2 parts: British Culture and American Culture. The two parts contain all the basic information students need about British and American institutions and everyday life. In particular, students are equipped with the knowledge of the political, legal, economic, social, educational, and religious systems. In addition, students learn about the value, customs, as well as history in Britain and the United States of America. This course provides a solid foundation for helping students learn and acquire the English language and cross-cultural communication.
