5. Course Objectives:
This course aims at enabling students to revise and expand their English grammar knowledge. After completing this course, students are expected to have firm foundation in English grammar to undertake subsequent courses of writing in English and academic writing.
6. Brief Description of Course Content:
This course enhances and further develops students’ knowledge of English grammar with the ultimate goal of improving their academic writing skills. It reinforces and deepens students’ knowledge of key components of English sentences, clauses and sentences formation, and of writing beyond sentence level. Besides, it provides students with crucial techniques in academic writing, such as: hedging, boosting, positioning, and using collocation and corpus. Through this course, students’ knowledge of both English grammar and academic writing are expected to be improved. This enables students to have serviceable knowledge to write different genres for their graduation (e.g., internship report, graduation thesis) and for their future work or further studies.
