This course provides the essential knowledge and skills for evaluating investment projects in the agricultural sector. The first lecture offers an overview of project appraisal, helping students understand key concepts, perspectives, processes, and implementation steps. Next, students will learn how to develop a financial cash flow report for a project, a crucial tool for analyzing and assessing financial performance from both the total investment and investor perspectives.
Subsequent lectures focus on investment efficiency evaluation criteria, equipping students with Excel-based calculation methods to assess a project's financial success. Lecture 4 introduces the concept of the financial discount rate, a critical factor in present value calculations and ensuring consistency in financial appraisal processes. Students will also learn how to evaluate projects from an economic perspective, including shadow pricing of project benefits and costs, as well as assessing the economic viability of agricultural projects.
Lecture 6 explores how to analyze the distribution of a project's net benefits across different target groups, ensuring fairness and rational allocation of scarce resources. Finally, Lecture 7 guides students in risk analysis for project appraisal, helping them develop risk mitigation strategies and optimize project effectiveness. Throughout the course, students will engage in practical exercises using real-world project scenarios in Excel, enhancing their analytical and decision-making skills in a professional setting.
