5. Course Objectives:

"This course introduces the practice of visual representation and helps develop basic skills in hand drawing and modeling. The first Basic Studiolab focuses on defining the principles for reading and understanding various drawings, including technical drawings, scales, maps, line types, and materials. Throughout the semester, knowledge and skills are developed through three practical sections: technical drawing, watercolor, and model making. Instruction emphasizes the application of skills through various types of exercises. Each section concludes with one or more cumulative exercises. The final assignment requires students to produce a finished product from their compositional ideas into illustrations and models.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course introduces the practice of visual representation, development of basic skills in architectural design drawing, modeling and thinking. Through essential hands-on design exercises, the first basic studiolab focuses on the development of the beginning design student’s design methodology founded on thoughtful, creative, ethical and rigorous work practices in service of exploring meaningful formal and spatial propositions. Representation techiniques, skill assets will be introduced in two parts throughout the semester included fundamental and projective drawing & perspective. The method of instruction will emphasize application of representation skills in response to project assignment. Each part will be capped with a cumulative assignment and a final project at the end of the semester will require the students to demonstrate a comprehensive graphic analysis and refined drawing and modeling output.
