5. Course Objectives:

This course provides insights and understanding of security analysis and valuation from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Specifically, the course aims at the following specific goals: M1. Understand the concepts of financial securities and valuation process; M2. Analyze macroeconomic and industry variables; M3. Analyze the financial statements and the performance of listed firms; M4. Value securities using different valuation methods; M5. Assess returns on active investment strategies; M6. Develop the skills needed to work in a sustainable investment environment and support professional development.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course is designed to provide students with the forefront of current methods of valuation techniques used in securities analysis and valuation, specifically: Understanding the securities analysis and valuation process; Analyzing macroeconomic and industry variables; Analyzing firms’ financial statements and performance; Valuing securities using different valuation methods; Assessing returns on active investment strategies. In addition, students are also equipped with data processing skills, writing company financial analysis reports as well as critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork skills. The course will set a foundation for advanced investment analysis and the following units of the program related to portfolio construction and management.
