Brief Course Description

1. Course Title:

Management Science

2. Language of Instruction:

Tiếng Việt

3. Course Code:

TOU515002

4. Credits:

5. Course Objectives:

Management science deals with the solution of management problems that involve quantitative factors. The sequential procedure followed by a management scientist includes: defining the problem and collecting data, interpreting the problem in the language of mathematical models, and finally solving the model logically, thereby making recommendations for solving the problem. Following this sequence, the course will focus on introducing and analyzing various optimization models and techniques.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

Management Science refers to solving managerial problems related to quantitative factors. Steps carried out by management scientists include: defining the problem and gathering data, formulating a model (typically a mathematical model) to represent the problem, deriving solutions to the problem from the model. Based on this procedure, the module will focus on introducing and analyzing different optimization techniques and models. Throughout the module, students will be guided the use of spreadsheets to run math operations. However, this module does not deeply go into the algorithm aspects of these models. Instead, it aims to analyze why and how these models are applied in solving managerial problems. The analysis of the requirements of data input and the interpretation of results will also be emphasized.
