5. Course Objectives:

"This course guides students through the principles of project appraisal and the use of Excel spreadsheets in investment project evaluation. It provides basic concepts including identifying suitable items to include in cash flow statements and developing project cash flow reports, determining the appropriate discount rate for different appraisal perspectives, applying criteria to evaluate the financial effectiveness of projects, and conducting risk analysis in project evaluation. The course also helps students distinguish between financial and economic analysis of the same project, address the environmental impacts of the project, and handle market price distortions of the benefits and costs related to the project."

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course teaches students the principles of project appraisal and the use of Excel spreadsheets in investment project appraisal. The basic concepts include identifying the appropriate items to include in the cashflow statements and developing project cashflow statements, determining the appropriate discount rate for different appraisal views, and project financial performance evaluation criteria, and perform risk analysis in project appraisal.

Specifically, the course will use different projects in business areas to illustrate the steps of conducting investment project appraisal from identifying and measuring benefits - costs, developing reports. Financial cashflow (principles; cashflow profile; how to prepare the datasheet, price indices, investment plans, amortization schedule, financing plan, loan and repayment schedule, loan interest settlement during the construction period, production and production plans and revenues, plans of operations and operating costs, reports on income and estimated corporate income tax of the project, working capital plans, reports financial cashflow), discount and calculate criteria on financial performance to analyze and manage financial risks.

The course also helps students to distinguish between financial analysis and economic analysis of the same project, how the project's environmental impacts are handled, and the distortions in market prices of benefits. and costs related to the project.
