5. Course Objectives:

The International Trade - Theory and Policy course aims to equip students with basic and specialized skills to: • Understand international trade theory: o Provide a foundation of knowledge about important economic models such as comparative advantage, absolute advantage, Ricardian model, and Heckscher-Ohlin. o Understand the factors that promote trade between countries and the role of international organizations such as the WTO in regulating global trade. • Analyze and evaluate trade policies: o Equip students with the ability to analyze the impact of trade policies (tariffs, quotas, export subsidies, etc.) on prices, social welfare, and economic efficiency. o Evaluate the impact of domestic economic policies on foreign trade activities and Vietnam's participation in the global supply chain. • Practical knowledge application skills: o Analyze and present international trade data through charts, tables, and simple models. o Apply knowledge of international trade policies, laws, and institutions to solve practical problems in trade activities. • Update and evaluate current issues: o Provide multi-dimensional perspectives on current trade disputes, protectionist policies, and the impact of globalization on Vietnam. o Analyze trade policies of Vietnam's strategic partners, thereby forming arguments in favor of or against free trade. • Develop strategic thinking and soft skills: o Encourage students to develop critical thinking, autonomy, and personal responsibility in learning and teamwork. o Practice the ability to present issues clearly, persuasively, and work effectively in an environment with diverse viewpoints.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course introduces students to the foundations of international trade in goods and services, the interdependence of supplying of goods and services, the benefits of trade, trade patterns, effects of trade protectionism, international mobility of labor and capital, and trade policies of countries are important partners of Vietnam. The course content also covers contemporary issues of political globalization and trade liberalization, trade disputes, and trade wars, etc.
