5. Course Objectives:
The "Facility Layout" course equips students with foundational knowledge and essential skills to design and optimize layouts in industrial systems. Students will gain a clear understanding of the principles of location and layout planning and apply statistical tools in product and process design. The course introduces queueing models, factory layouts, warehouse functions and designs, inspection systems, production operations management, and material handling systems. Additionally, students will explore quantitative models and approaches for layout design in both "Single-Facility Location" and "Multi-Facility Location" scenarios. By the end of the course, students will be capable of developing and optimizing facility layout solutions tailored to practical requirements.
6. Brief Description of Course Content:
This course focuses on the fundamentals of the design, layout, and location of industrial and non-manufacturing facilities. Selection of machines and material handling equipment and their efficient arrangement. Emphasis on quantitative methods, warehouse layout, facility location theory.
