This course introduces students to foundational practices in visual representation, focusing on developing basic skills in hand drawing and physical modeling. The first Basic Studiolab emphasizes understanding and interpreting various types of drawings, including technical drawings, scales, maps, line types, and materials. Throughout the semester, students engage in three major practical components: technical drawing, watercolor, and model making. Learning activities are structured around progressive exercises in each component, with cumulative assignments at the end of each section. The final project requires students to transform their compositional ideas into both finished illustrations and physical models.
