5. Course Objectives:

This course aims to provide students with structured opportunities to practice teaching English through micro-teaching sessions at the university. It develops their ability to design lesson plans, deliver short demo lessons, and manage classroom interaction in simulated settings. Students apply knowledge of language skills and language teaching methods from previous courses, experiment with different teaching techniques and learn from peers and lecturers through observation and constructive feedback. The course emphasizes reflective practice by encouraging students to evaluate their own and other peers’ teaching performances and to set goals for further professional growth.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course enables students to practice English teaching in a simulated classroom environment. Working in small groups, students design and deliver a demo lesson for a specific purpose (e.g., English for communication, English for academic or workplace use) while experimenting with a variety of teaching techniques. The course is organized around four main components:

  1. Preparation: Developing lesson plans, selecting materials, and applying appropriate teaching methods.
  2. Micro-teaching: Delivering teaching demonstrations in front of peers, focusing on clarity, interaction, and classroom techniques.
  3. Observation: Analyzing peers’ lessons to identify effective strategies and exploring diverse teaching techniques.
  4. Reflection and Feedback: Receiving constructive input from peers and lecturers, and critically reflecting on personal teaching performance.

To support this learning process, the course includes guided workshops on key aspects of language pedagogy, reflection discussions and case studies. Students also take active roles as peer-observers, using observation checklists and feedback to evaluate their classmates’ teaching.
