It serves as a bridge between the intermediate and academic levels, enabling students to move from basic comprehension of texts to critical analysis and evaluation of complex academic and professional materials.

Through exposure to various text types such as academic articles, research reports, specialized essays, and business documents, students will acquire advanced academic reading strategies, including identifying argument structures, recognizing main ideas and implications, analyzing author perspectives, and evaluating the credibility of sources.

The course also enhances students’ critical thinking, note-taking and summarizing skills, and ability to synthesize information from multiple sources. These competencies form the foundation for success in subsequent courses such as Advanced Reading 2, Advanced Writing 1–2, and Research Skills, as well as in professional environments that demand analytical reading and information processing.
