5. Course Objectives:

This course helps students develop a data analytics mindset and skills to meet the requirements of the future accounting profession. Students can understand the importance of data and data analytics in creating value by solving business and accounting questions. Students will be able to collect, clean, and standardize data from various sources, as well as apply analytical methods and tools such as Power BI or Excel to generate valuable insights. In addition, they will gain an understanding of ethical issues related to data collection and usage.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course will provide seven knowledge and skills that analytic-minded accountants must have to be prepared for a data-filled world, including: (1) An analytics mindset; (2) Data scrubbing and data preparation; (3) Data quality; (4) Descriptive data analysis; (5) Data analysis through data manipulation; (6) Problem solving through statistical data analysis; (7) Data visualization and data reporting. The course also explains the applications of the IMPACT model (1. Identify the question; 2. Master the data; 3. Perform test plan; 4. Address and refine results; 5. Communicate insights; 6. Track outcomes) to solve problems in the process of data analysis in accounting.
