The course helps students develop competencies in the relationship between sustainability and business, as well as critical thinking.
1. Business and Environmental Sustainability: Understand the challenges that businesses face regarding environmental sustainability, the drivers of change in corporate environmental behavior, strategies to balance traditional economic values with environmental concerns, and the different political-economic perspectives on environmental sustainability.
2. Business and Social Justice: Examine how business decisions and practices can significantly impact social groups, either positively or negatively. Understand the role of businesses in promoting social justice, including ethical business practices, environmental protection, and community engagement. Analyze how businesses can contribute to or mitigate social inequalities, such as income disparities, access to services, employment opportunities, and develop sustainable business models that balance profit with social benefits.
3. Critical Thinking: Environmental and social justice issues are scientifically complex, politically global, and involve a wide range of opposing views. Therefore, students need to cultivate critical thinking to address sustainable challenges and solutions. This includes balancing advocacy with research, identifying the root of differing perspectives, and finding common ground in complex and controversial issues.
