6. Brief Description of Course Content:

Sustainable business is not only a trend but also a new standard for businesses, as most countries and regions around the world consider sustainable development a mandatory requirement. In that context, a series of regulations on carbon taxes, environmental fees, and strict regulations on social standards that businesses must comply with are increasingly appearing. In particular, the proportion of consumers globally, as well as in Vietnam, who tend to choose products from businesses that practice sustainable business is increasing. At this time, making investment/business decisions cannot be based solely on traditional financial NPV analysis; instead, businesses need to evaluate projects or make investment decisions based on optimal integrated value analysis, including environmental and social values (in addition to traditional financial NPV).

In addition, with long-term projects, besides the usual risks, businesses today also face risks arising from policy and technology uncertainties due to the need to meet low emission requirements, as well as the frequent occurrence of extreme weather events. Therefore, scenario analysis is extremely necessary when making financial decisions.

All of these contents will be experienced by students through the Sustainable Finance subject. Of course, to achieve the above goal, before analyzing practical situations, this subject will also enable students to grasp basic concepts and terminology in the field of sustainable finance, understand the principles and procedures for issuing sustainable financial instruments according to international standards to finance sustainable business projects, and learn how to calculate the integrated value of an investment project or a business decision by considering financial value, environmental value, and social value based on scenario analysis.
