5. Course Objectives:

This course aims to provide students with the basic concepts of financial mathematics and how to apply these concepts in calculating the present value and accumulation of various cash flows to meet future needs, including reserves, valuation, asset management, debt, investment income, capital budgeting, and evaluating potential cash flows. The course is designed to closely align with the curriculum for the Financial Mathematics (FM Exam) of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) to prepare students for careers in actuarial science.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course covers the finance mathematic foundation for financial career. Students are provided knowledge on applied math to understand many concept of finance. It includes topics such as simple and compound interest, stochastic interest, future and present value, nominal and effective rates, annuity, DCF, and NPV. We will use Excel and R to demonstrate the calculation process and make sure you have practical skills to handle financial math problems.
