This course introduces students to a well-functioning financial system that promotes economic development in a transforming, open, and developing economy. The institutional approach is chosen to present these contents. The course begins by introducing an overview of the role of the financial system in the economy, analyzing the development of the financial system and the problems of the financial system in developing countries. development, from the potential dangers of government failure to financial repression to financial liberalization. In more detail the course also discusses the foundations of the financial system including financial contracts, legal foundations, property and mortgage rights, banking law, banking regulation, finance business support, monitoring and control activities.
