5. Course Objectives:

This course aims to ensure students' understanding of sustainability metrics as well as global reporting standards and requirements. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: • Identify appropriate indicators for measuring the sustainability of organizations (both public and private). • Understand sustainability reporting standards within various governance frameworks around the world. • Explain why sustainability information is increasingly important to stakeholders, especially investors, when making investment decisions. • Begin to apply the knowledge gained in the course to select and prepare sustainability reports for an organization or unit.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course will cover the use of data and indicators to measure sustainability and monitor a business’s progress toward sustainable development.  In addition, the course will introduce theoretical foundations and practical issues related to corporate sustainability reporting. It will also focus on existing and emerging frameworks for developing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance indicators, assessing their reliability, reporting to stakeholders, and encouraging managers to act based on ESG metrics. Specifically, the course content includes:

  • Introducing data and indicators for calculating the environmental, social, and economic impacts of an organization through its activities.
  • Assessing the extent to which organizations depend on and are affected by the environmental, social, and economic contexts in which they operate.
