5. Course Objectives:

This course provides students with a core theoretical foundation on typical political and legal theories in the history of human thought. After studying theories on the origin, nature, and role of the state and law, students will understand the ideological basis of models of state power organization and legal systems in different historical periods. In addition, the course focuses on developing the ability to analyze, compare, and evaluate political and legal theories, helping students apply theoretical perspectives to explain some political and legal issues in modern society. With this theoretical foundation, students will develop critical thinking skills and enhance their understanding of the role of law in ensuring justice, social order, and the rule of law.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

Political and legal theories are a compulsory subject for students. The course content provides a theoretical foundation on representative theories explaining the origin, nature, and role of the state and law in the historical development of society. The course delves into the analysis and evaluation of the dominant political and legal theories that have shaped human history from ancient times to the modern era, such as theocracy, social contract theory, liberal thought, the theory of separation of powers, and Marxist views on the state and law.

For law programs, this course plays a fundamental theoretical role, helping students understand the ideological basis of political and legal institutions and develop analytical and comparative thinking skills regarding different models of state power organization. The knowledge gained from this course contributes to students' deeper understanding of specialized subjects such as Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Civil Law, etc.

The course equips students with the ability to develop critical thinking skills and evaluate political and legal theories within the context of the development of the rule of law and the Vietnamese legal system, thereby enhancing their ability to apply theoretical foundations to the research and analysis of legal issues in practice.
