The course provides students with foundational knowledge of law, legal science, the legal profession, and legal ethics. First, students are systematically introduced to various theoretical conceptions of law, including different schools of thought, perspectives, and approaches to the nature of law.
On that basis, the course presents methods of systematizing law; sources of law and the relationships among different types of sources; domestic and international legal systems; as well as key foundational concepts of legal science such as legal relations, implementation of law, legal violations, and legal liability.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, students are introduced to basic tools and methods for legal analysis, application of law, and legal research. The course also familiarizes students with different fields of legal practice, professional standards, and legal ethics, thereby helping them to initially develop their academic, research, and career orientation for subsequent stages of their legal education.
