5. Course Objectives:

- Provide foundational knowledge of scientific research: Students will gain a solid understanding of basic concepts, principles, and processes involved in conducting scientific research, from identifying research problems, developing research proposals, conducting comprehensive literature reviews, developing conceptual/theoretical models, and developing research hypotheses to analyzing data and presenting research results/findings in a logical and systematic manner. - Develop practical research skills: Students will be trained in data collection and analysis (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods), writing literature reviews, developing research models, and presenting research results through hands-on activities and group discussions. - Promote autonomy and responsibility in research: Students will be guided to independently search for academic resources, evaluate research quality, stay updated on emerging trends, and develop critical thinking and creativity in proposing applicable scientific solutions. Importantly, students will demonstrate awareness of ethical and social issues in the research process, including potential impacts on businesses, society, and research participants, as well as uphold honesty and integrity in conducting and reporting research findings.

6. Brief Description of Course Content:

This course introduces research methods commonly used in business disciplines. It provides students with an understanding of the range of methods that can be employed to address research questions, an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each method, as well as the philosophical assumptions that underpin each method. Key components of the business research process are covered, including identifying the research problem; devising the research objectives and questions; conducting a systematic literature review; developing a conceptual model and research hypotheses; developing measurement instruments and scales for research constructs; methods and procedures for data collection; methods and procedures for data analysis; and interpreting and reporting the results. Students will learn important research terminology, how to write a research proposal, and understand ethical considerations in conducting research. The course equips students with foundational knowledge and essential skills to independently conduct an applied research project before graduation, and also serves as foundational knowledge for those who wish to pursue advanced academic research in their field of specialization.
