The course is an overall introduction to the history of architecture and urbanism. The field has a history of thousands of years. It has been going on since the very first form of human settlement was established. Therefore, the purpose of the course is not to comprehensively cover the entirety of history, but rather to reinterpret it through specific themes and perspectives. The idea is to understand architectural and urban history in relation to socio-ecological changes. In other words, the aim is to comprehend the reasons behind the shifts in architecture and urbanism over time. Students will learn how to critically review and analyze case studies in each important era. They will study how the structure of architecture and urbanism has shifted in different circumstances to adapt to socio-ecological changes. At the end of the course, students are able to reflect on their perspectives about the history of architecture and urbanism.
