The project “Raising legal awareness and strengthening coordination among state agencies, organizations and communities in classification, storage, transfer and collection of municipal solid waste” is funded by the Justice Initiative Facilitation Fund (JIFF), the European Union. It is managed by the Oxfam in Vietnam and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) receives funding from JIFF to be implemented from November 2021 to October 2022 in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to advising the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on decisions related to municipal solid waste management in the city. Raise environmental awareness among women (especially housewives) and school students about the classification, storage, and transportation of waste. Apply technology in waste classification and collection.

Main activities include:

  • Contributing expert inputs to support the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in issuing Decisions related to domestic solid waste management across the city.
  • Raising environmental awareness among women (especially housewives) and high school students on proper waste classification, storage, and transfer practices.
  • Applying digital technologies to guide residents in the classification and collection of household waste.
  • For waste collection units: ensuring full compliance with legal regulations; collecting waste only when it has been properly sorted and placed in designated areas, and adhering to the announced schedules and collection points.
  • For local authorities: organizing bidding processes to select qualified waste collection units according to established standards and regulations, and supervising their implementation.
