Fifty-six (56) experts to join “Digital Transformation of Vietnam Economy – Technology, Market and Policy”

An overview of the Seminar

Attending the Seminar, guest attendants included Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Van Thao - Vice Chairman of Central Theory Council; Mr. Nguyen Trong Duong - Deputy Director of Department of Computerization; Mr. Lam Nguyen Hai Long - Director of Quang Trung Software City; Mr. Ho Duc Hung - Deputy General Director of MISA Joint Stock Company; Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Managing Director, Sao Bac Dau Technology Company; Mr. Ngo Hoang Gia Khanh - Deputy General Director of Business Development, TIKI Joint Stock Company; Mr. Ta Xuan Thinh - Director of SmartPay Personal Electronic Wallet Division, Smartnet Trading Service Company Limited. As for UEH, in attendace were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – President of University Council, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – UEH President, along with representatives from various organizations, departments, etc.

Upon seeing various digital transformation processes across various fields, such as commerce, investment, finance, banking, etc., Prof. Nguyen Dong Phong is hopeful and adamant in leading UEH to also partake in such quest to seek further opportunities while identifying potential risks and challenges in the new digital age. After 4 months, UEH has collected 56 substantial papers, all of which contributed significantly to the theoretical and practical application of the revolution of digital economy in Vietnam.

The 6 main topics discussed at the Seminar were all heavily associated with digital transformation, including Legal Proceedings, Governance and Public Funding Management, Trade Services, Business Administration, Tourism, Finance-Banking, Accounting – Auditing, STEM-Innovation.

As the first opener, Mr. Nguyen Trong Duong – Deputy Director of Department of Computerization, Ministry of Information and Communication touched based on “Reorienting the strategies for economy digital transformation in the context of national digital revolution”, to which he then proposed several resolutions to further expand on this process in the days to come.

In further development, more speakers took turns exploring several key aspects of the seminar, mostly concerning economic and urban development in the new digital era.

Dr. Trinh Tu Anh - Director of the Institute of Smart Cities and UEH Management (ISCM) delivered her findings on “The Role of Universities and Research Institutes in Digital Transformation of Economies Towards Smart Urban Development in Vietnam". From the analysis of the digital transformation model in educational institutions around the world (Cloud Computing, Living Lab, ...), ISCM wishes to bring technology applications into research and development of the digital economy and smart cities in Vietnam.

Next, Mr. Lam Nguyen Hai Long - Director of Quang Trung Software City brought forth his own company’s direct experience in this revolution. With its advantages already being a digital platform, Quang Trung Software City had implemented several steps in data consolidation with regards to operations management in order to turn those figures into valuable and meaningful business tools.

Sharing digital transformation solutions to help businesses recover production and business in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Ho Duc Hung - Deputy General Director, MISA Joint Stock Company commented on the needs for business to apply technology in corporate governance, depending on different stages and scale. For that reason, each business needs to be prepared with more holistic resolutions and a more diverse approach in cross-functional collaboration between Accounting – Finance, Marketing and Human Resources.

Afterwards, the Seminar continued on with a roundtable discussion on “Opportunities and Challenges in the post-COVID Digital Economy”, facilitated by Mr. Nguyen Ba Diep - Vice President, Co-Founder of MoMo Digital Wallet; Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - CEO of Sao Bac Dau Technology Company; Mr. Ngo Hoang Gia Khanh - Deputy General Director of Business Development of TIKI Joint Stock Company; and Mr. Ta Xuan Thinh - Director of SmartPay Personal Electronic Wallet Division, Smartnet Trading Service Company Limited.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan considered Covid-19 to be a key catalyst that moved to accelerate the digital transformation process nationwide. Regardless of the impact from the pandemic, it is undoubtedly that every business must continue to thrive and innovate, which meant integrating technology into all aspects of the business and across industries. The speakers and facilitators also made sure to elaborate on shared experiences and other practical solutions to aid businesses on their way to a more effective digital transformation journey.

The Seminar took place successfully, and played a role as a place to exchange, solve problems and contribute to making recommendations to the Government on digital transformation in Vietnam's economic development.
