Seminar on "Teaching and Learning in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0 at University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City"

Under the influence of increasing trends of domestic and international competition, higher education has seen many significant changes, including but not limited to: educational environment, the role of the teachers and learners, as well as teaching methods in the digital transformation era, etc. Accordingly, education will become an open space where everyone and anyone can partake in the learning process together, anywhere and anytime, through different means and devices.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic increasingly affecting the education sector, to promote higher education innovation and contribute to improving the academic reputation of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), UEH held a seminar on "Teaching and Learning in the era of Revolution 4.0 at University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City” at Hall A.103 of UEH Campus A.

Attending the seminar, guest participants included Mr. Le Phan Long - Education Solutions & Customer Manager of Microsoft Vietnam and Mr. Nguyen Long Giao – Business Development Manager of CISCO Systems Vietnam. On UEH side, the meeting welcomed Ph.D. Tran The Hoang – Chairman of the University Council; Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai, Ph.D. - Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Huu Huy Nhut, Ph.D. - Vice President; together with the teachers, all of whom are Divisions Leaders; Lecturers and Officials coming for progress update reports and further strategy discussion. In particular, the Seminar attracted the attention of a large number of Lecturers and Officials with many quality input, which were consolidated into a Journal.

Speaking at the opening of the Seminar, Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai, Ph.D. - Vice President expressed his great appreciation to all authors for their enthusiastic contributions.

With more than 60 discussion topics submitted to the Seminar, the dialogue was extremely diverse with emphasis on:

  1. Raising awareness on the importance of Industrial Revolution 4.0, perception transformation on teaching, and applying new learning methods so that so that UEH learners can more effectively acquire knowledge and innovatively apply them into practice to maintain and improve UEH’s research-oriented atmosphere in the rise of globalization
  2. Identifying, analyzing and evaluating the potentials of UEH’s technology facilities and online teaching situation;
  3. Sharing online teaching and learning experience at UEH during COVID-19 lockdown/social distancing order; and
  4. Discussing specific recommendations to form proper protocols and policies on innovative teaching and learning methods in the digital age and develop long-term, sustainable online learning practices at UEH

At the Seminar, besides focusing on progress updates, participants also took part in sharing identified challenges and their practice experiences with online learning amidst the pandemic. Additionally, specific solutions for enhancing the application of technology in teaching and learning were also directed to the Organization Committee for further review and implementation.

The seminar, which was a success, was a valuable opportunity for UEH-ers to meet and chat about their experiences on information technology application in management, teaching and learning.
