Supply chain and logistics management play a vital role in the national economy of Vietnam in two ways. First, logistics is one of the major expenditures for businesses, thereby affecting and being affected by other economic activities. Secondly, logistics support economic transactions; it is critical for facilitating sales of goods and services. Like any other economic sector, a skilled and competent workforce in the logistics sector contributes greatly to its success. Also, having a skilled and competent workforce is essential in light of increasing external trade opportunities such as the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
As the business environment continues to evolve, the supply chain and logistics sector faces numerous challenges. To face these challenges, well-trained, skilled, and competent logistics and supply chain professionals are essential. It is expected that logistics and supply chain professionals with a high level of competence would perform well and contribute to their firms’ logistics performance.
The aim of this seminar is to present Vietnamese industry professionals, scholars and students with preliminary results of a joint study between UEH and RMIT regarding the link between logistics and supply chain competence and firm logistics performance. Implications for students, training institutions, managers and policymakers will also be discussed.
