"Adding Value to the Vietnamese Agri-food Sector: Insights from a British Council Newton Fund Project” workshop

Within the framework of international cooperation in scientific research, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and the University of Newcastle, UK have jointly implemented a Research Project funded by the British Council. The project aims to find, introduce and apply Precision Agriculture technologies into Vietnam's agriculture, especially vegetables and fruit crops. To summarize the activities of the project, on September 8, 2017; at 59C Nguyen Dinh Chieu Campus, UEH held “Adding Value to the Vietnamese Agri-food Sector: Insights from a British Council Newton Fund Project” workshop.

Attending the workshop were Mr. Tu Minh Thien - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Hi-Tech Agricultural Park; Dr. Duong Hoa Xo - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoa - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade along with many scientists, researches, managers of agriculture companies.

Main topics of the workshop included:

- Adding value to the Vietnamese agri-food sector: Project Overview;

- Precision Agriculture: Lessons from the UK;

- The role of Precision Agriculture: Enhancing breeding programmes in Vietnam;

- Investing in Precision Agriculture: What does it mean for farmers?;

- Adding value to domestic fruit sale: Are consumer willing to pay?;

- Opportunities for Global Value Chain Development in the Vietnamese Fruit Sector;

- Improving value added in Vietnamese Global Value Chains: What’s next?.
