Public talk on the “Policyholder Behavior in Life Insurance: The State of Affairs"

Dear distinguished guests,

You are invited to participate in a public talk on the “Policyholder Behavior in Life Insurance: The State of Affairs" by Dr. Eric Ulm from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

Abstract: Policyholders have many options embedded in their life insurance contracts. Among these are options to lapse the policy or withdraw funds from cash values or underlying accounts. It is important for insurance companies to correctly anticipate policyholder behavior so that they can price and reserve their contracts, as well as properly engage in hedging and risk management activities. This talk gives an overview of what is currently known about policyholder behavior in life insurance. It will discuss potential drivers of policyholder behavior in theory and survey the implications of different models. It will also examine empirical behavior and appraise how well different drivers explain observations.
