Practice: Analyzing data from medical and epidemiological studies on RStudio software. |
6. Health care quality management |
3 |
Quality management has become a vital part of the growth of organizations by focusing on the effectiveness of management systems and customer satisfaction. The course provides learners with the principal knowledge of quality management, and its role in the sustainable development of organizations in general and the health care facilities in particular. Learners have the opportunity to study the method of quality management effectiveness in the organizations in Vietnam and other countries around the world. Moreover, learners have many opportunities to discuss and identify quality management issues in their organizations. Learners can share their knowledge and experiences on quality management. Thereby, the course helps learners having the ability to apply the knowledge to solve quality management problems, and orientate the implementation of an appropriate quality management system. |
7. Health Administration and Management |

8. Health Economics |
3 |
Health economics course covers a wide range of health and healthcare economics topics. This course provides the economic concepts related to health behavior, the economic models and essential economics instruments for analyses 1) efficient resource allocation for health and healthcare systems, 2) efficiency of the health care market. This course consists of 9 lectures. Learners need to read the learning materials before attending the lecture. In addition, learners will have a practical part in the manner of a case study. There are two case studies presented in the course. In each case study, learners will be introduced to the research problem and provided with data. Learners will practice how to apply theories to solve research problems. Finally, each learner have to submit a research report for two case studies which is to evaluate the course result. |
9. Health Econometrics |
3 |
In this course, students will study how economists use econometric models to analyze data, and in so doing, investigate the real world issues and suggest policy implications to policy makers. This course introduces the standard methods for estimating relationships between observed variables, and testing hypotheses about economic relationships based on theories. The focus will be on the estimation of econometric models, and interpretation of the estimation results. Econometric models that are widely used in journal articles and the models in healthcare management are introduced in the course. For each model, students will be introduced the uses, the implementation of the model using econometric package (RStudio), and the interpretation of the estimation results. This course also introduces participants the basics of R programming language for implementing popular econometric models, including the linear regression model, panel data models, and models with limited dependent variables. The course also gets participants familiar with matrix operations and mathematical programming, which is necessary for advanced econometric models. Lectures of this course are organized by econometric models or topics. Each lecture consists of a brief review of the econometric issues, the R packages or programming (estimation and post-estimation) skills applicable for the econometric issues with real data. |

13. Economic analysis of health care policy |
2 |
Health policy plays an important role in the optimal use of limited resources (people, time, machinery and equipment, knowledge) to achieve health goals. Besides medicine, a good health policy needs to be built on the analysis of economics, the scientific field dedicated to the issue of optimal use of finite resources. This course will focus on analyzing typical health policies from an economic perspective. Specifically, the course will focus on four groups of health policy to which economic analysis has a direct contribution: (1) health care financing, (2) health care provision, (3) health behaviors, và (4) economic valuation of health care programs. The Vietnamese health system will be a key example in this course. Analyzing a health policy from an economic perspective requires two main knowledge bases: 1) economic concepts and principles and (2) data collection and data analyses. Learners have been gained with these two blocks of knowledge in the previous two courses, Microeconomics for health sector and Statistical methods for health sector. This course will help learners combine the above two blocks of knowledge to perform economic analysis of health policies. |
