"The Border Spring": Spreading Social Responsibility and Strengthening Cooperation Between Vietnam's Two Leading Economics Universities

In commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2026), and in celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the National Economics University (NEU) and the 50th founding anniversary of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), the "Border Spring" 2026 program was organized from April 10 to April 12, 2026, with the aim of strengthening the solidarity between the military and the people, and sharing love and care with the soldiers guarding the nation's frontiers.

Nationwide lockdown or regional lockdown – which policy is more optimal from an economic analysis perspective in controlling the pandemic? A study by an author from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) employs the TERM economic model to “decode” the differential impacts of social distancing strategies in Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings reveal that each policy choice not only alters the nation’s overall GDP but also generates varying effects on the expenditure components of GDP as well as on the sectoral contributions to GDP across regions – a consideration that policymakers must carefully weigh in future crises.

[Research Contribution] How Did Social Distancing Policies Affect the Vietnamese Economy During the COVID-19 Pandemic?

A research study conducted by scholars from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) applies the TERM (The Enormous Regional Model) computable general equilibrium model to decode the differential impacts of various social distancing strategies implemented in Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings reveal that each policy option not only leads to distinct changes in the country’s overall GDP, but also results in varying effects on the components of GDP expenditure and the sectoral contributions to GDP across different regions. These insights offer critical considerations for policymakers when facing future systemic shocks and public health crises.

In the context of social insurance (SI) being an important pillar of social security, the fact that many enterprises have not fully participated in providing for their employees has posed a major challenge to sustainability and social equity. Research by the author group from UEH Mekong, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has pointed out four main barriers that reduce compliance motivation and contribute to maintaining the non-SI participation status in the business sector: limited awareness of business owners, light level of handling violations, low risk of non-compliance and information asymmetry.
