2024 Initiative - Integrating art and technology towards sustainability

25 Dec, 2024

2024 marks a milestone of the remarkable development of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) into the Top 501-600 World Universities in 2025 (THE Ranking) and Top 650 World, Top 162 Asia Sustainable Universities in 2025 (QS World Ranking Sustainability 2025). This achievement is the crystallization of the intelligence, efforts and solidarity of the collective leadership, lecturers, staff, civil servants and employees of UEH. These attempts have been clearly demonstrated through 05 initiatives contributing to the overall development of UEH in all fields.

Applying gamification and launching “UEH Green Campus Game “Play.Learn.Transform”

Realizing the digital transformation strategy and leading the application of technology in education (edu tech), UEH has applied game gamification to launch the platform "UEH Green Campus Game "Play.Learn.Transform" to educate and to teach environmental knowledge for the course on Sustainable Development, Green University - Orientation Activities, and extracurricular topics on environmental knowledge. UEH Green Campus Game is the second R&D product with technology and innovation of the Living Lab UEH Green Campus model - an attempt to solve problems and to minimize negative impacts on the environment during the operation of UEH campuses (alongside the tool AI Scan to Classify supporting waste identification and classification).

This initiative helps convey environmental knowledge in a more vivid way, promoting behavioral change through game mechanics like points and rewards and encourages active participation and cooperation among students to contribute to building a community that cares for environmental protection. In addition, this is a new approach to combining education and entertainment, in line with global sustainable development goals and the digital trend of the current generation of university students who are familiar with digital platforms and online games.
From September 6 to 18, 2024, within the framework of the 2024 Orientation Day, UEH Green Campus Game attracted more than 16,000 experiences with the participation of 9,270 students, providing students with an overview of the environment, how to protect the surrounding environment and the principles of green living at UEH.

In 2025, Version 2 of the platform will continue to be updated and supplemented with the latest information on the topic of “Neutral carbon and Zero carbon”. In particular, with the interest of the community, one fund from a non-profit organization has decided to co-sponsor with UEH to upgrade and expand the platform to 10 universities in Ho Chi Minh City.

Synchronizing and improving the quality of support for learners, employees/staff and comprehensive partners through a multi-channel CRM management and caring system

In order to ensure consistency and to improve service quality throughout the university and serve all learners, staff/employees and partners, the CRM multi-channel management and caring system has been deployed and widely applied by UEH in all affiliated units. In 2024, UEH used the evaluation of each support request (ticket) as a basis for measuring the service quality of management units at UEH.

This solution helps UEH systematize information and data in a logical, complete and clear way; maximize the exploitation of infrastructure, modernize and digitalize the management, support and care for learners/partners. Concurrently, it helps functional units save time, effort and supports their professional tasks. In particular, the UEH CRM System integrates a knowledge base that has helped learners, employees/workers, and partners to be proactive and have the ability to research and self-study information about UEH.

After the implementation period, the UEH CRM System has received positive feedback from learners/partners and users:
• The CRM system has compiled and stored information and cooperation content of more than 1,340 partners (organizations, enterprises) with UEH;
• The UEH knowledge repository has built a data set of 50 folders with more than 500 articles providing all UEH information for learners, employees and workers;
• The CRM system is operated with the participation of 17 UEH units;
• As of November 21, 2024, the CRM system has received and processed more than 44,000 support requests (tickets), including more than 9,415 requests from UEH employees and staff.

With the great benefits, efficiency and value along with the infrastructure that meets the requirements of UEH, the CRM System will be maintained and further developed with more benefits and functions to contribute to bringing great values and good experiences to the UEH community.

English composition contest "PROUD OF MULTI-DISCIPLINARY AND SUSTAINABLE UEH" (UEH - EngContest 2024)

Innovating the form of improving English proficiency for staff and employees, UEH organized for the first time the English composition contest "PROUD OF MULTI-DISCIPLINARY AND SUSTAINABLE UEH” (UEH - EngContest 2024) combining writing, speaking, and artistic creativity skills listed as podcasts and videos, making it different from previous English proficiency improvement activities that focused on training.

Works in various forms (Articles, posters, podcasts, videos) participating in the Contest

By combining art and sustainable education, the works in various forms (articles, posters, podcasts, videos) have shown the imprints, memories and feelings of UEHers regarding sustainable projects at UEH, encouraging creativity and reflecting sustainable values to motivate participants to spread positive messages. The winning works in the contest were compiled and vividly presented by the Organizing Committee in the form of e-books with beautiful designs (see more at LINK).

The UEH EngContest 2024 is an innovative initiative that has a positive impact on the UEHer community and is fully aligned with the UEH development strategy 2025-2030. The initiative contributes to improving English proficiency and spreads sustainable values and the spirit of UEH pride and solidarity, helping to build the image of a pioneering university in combining education, arts, and sustainability to create a solid foundation for future community development activities.

Developing and improving English proficiency for learners through replicating the English zone model on campus - UEH English Zone

The English Zone was first deployed by UEH in 2021 for students, lecturers, staff and employees to experience a dynamic English living environment through 03 regular activities (coffee exchanges, chess games, club activities and weekly film screenings) and 04 periodic activities (music performances, language seminars, career seminars and cultural exchanges every month and every year). After three years of organization and improvement, the English Zone has gradually become an indispensable part of students. Not only does it contribute to improving language skills, but it also opens up opportunities to connect with international friends for students to confidently express themselves and their language abilities.

In 2024, UEH English Zone was replicated by the Department of Student Affairs at UEH Nguyen Van Linh in August 2024, with the goal of supporting, developing, and improving English proficiency for learners at campus N in general and development orientation for UEH Nguyen Van Linh dormitory students in particular. The activity has attracted the participation of a large number of UEH students.

The parallel and periodic operation of the English Zones at two main campuses has created a dynamic and useful living environment to help improve the English proficiency of the UEHers community in general and learners in particular. In the future, UEH will continue to replicate this model to more campuses and branches to create an international standard environment throughout UEH so that learners have more opportunities to learn and to improve their English communication skills. In particular, it aims to empower students to proactively register to organize activities and to maintain them at all UEH campuses.
