In recent years, studying and taking the IELTS have grown in importance and competitiveness in Vietnam, especially for students looking to improve their English in order to prepare for college and university admissions, work applications, and study abroad opportunities. Consequently, getting high scores on the IELTS is becoming more and more important, particularly for the hardest skill: writing.
Understanding the significance of Writing, on January 25, 2024, the Department of Student Affairs (DSA), in partnership with the School of Foreign Languages of UEH, held a workshop on "Achieving 7.0 IELTS Writing" as part of periodic activities at the UEH English Zone with the Speaker: Dr. Cao Thi Hong Phuong, graduated from Victoria University of Wellington who has nearly thirty years of experience teaching English.
Throughout the workshop, she gave students real-world examples of the components of successful writing and encouraged them to brainstorm and have discussions. After a few talks, participants worked through vocabulary, topics, time management, and other issues.
Dr. Phuong identified a number of issues with the student's writing, such as a failure to follow the assignment guidelines, an excessive word count, sentence construction, and irrelevant or inaccurate information. Additionally, candidates should avoid language issues such as word repetition, incorrect word meanings, and inappropriate academic terms.
Discussion to answer the question “How to Achieve Band 7 IELTS writing?”
Using a checklist makes it easier to proofread your work and find mistakes.
The first language workshop in 2024 was full of learning energy by Dr. Cao Thi Hong Phuong. Among other helpful outcomes, the "Achieving Band 7 IELTS writing" workshop has enhanced writing abilities and promoted independent study to advance English proficiency.
The participants' insightful contributions marked the end of the workshop.
As part of UEH English Zone project, Language Workshop is a monthly activity organized with many practical topics to help learners and officials gradually feel interested in learning English.
