Annual International Conference for Young Researchers of Economics & Business schools 2023 (ICYREB 2023)

On October 27, 2023, the 9th annual International Conference for Young Researchers in Economics and Business - ICYREB 2023 was held at University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH). The conference aimed to create opportunities for young researchers to publish and to discuss their results on issues of economics, business, and sustainable growth with technology and innovation; contributing ideas and solutions with a theoretical basis and reliable practical evidence for improving development institutions and policies.

ICYREB 2023 is for young scientists and is co-organized by 10 colleges in Economics and Business nationwide including University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, University of Economics - Vietnam National University Hanoi, Banking Academy, National Economics University, Foreign Trade University, University of Commerce, Academy of Finance, University of Economics - University of Da Nang, University of Economics - Hue University, University of Economics and Law - National University Ho Chi Minh City.

Overview of ICYREB 2023

Attending the Conference, on behalf of UEH, there were: Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - President of UEH; Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President of UEH; Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Vice President of UEH; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Vice President of UEH; Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Trang - Vice Head of UEH College of Business; Dr. Dinh Thi Thu Hong - Vice Head of UEH College of Business.

On behalf of representatives, there were: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu - Vice Rector of National Economics University; Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Huynh Thi Thuy Giang - Vice Principal of University of Economics and Law, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector of University of Economics, Vietnam National University Hanoi; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien - Vice Principal of Foreign Trade University; Dr. Phan Khoa Cuong, Chairman of the Council of the University of Economics, Hue University; Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Vo Thi Thuy Anh - Vice Principal of University of Economics, University of Danang; Dr. Tran Viet Thao - Deputy Head of Scientific Management - International Cooperation, University of Commerce; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Thieu, Deputy Director of the Academy of Finance.

In particular, the Conference had the presence of two speakers - two researchers and experts in the fields of Economics and Technology:

Prof.Dr. Chris Schinckus - Dean of the School of Business and Computing, University of the Fraser Valley (Canada). He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Leicester (UK) and has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals and a book on Economic Physics (Oxford University Press). He currently serves as an Editor for the Business and Management Section of Sage Open and Co-Editor for the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES).

Dr. Lesly Goh - Senior Technology Advisor, Former Chief Technology Officer of the World Bank Group. She is also a Fulbright Specialist, Research Fellow at the Cambridge Center for Alternative Finance (CCAF) and Senior Research Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors of GovTech Singapore and an Advisor to the Harvard Project on Asian and International Relations (HPAIR). Dr. Goh was selected by the Rockefeller Foundation as a 2023 Bellagio Center Resident and by Stanford University’s Institute for Distinguished Careers for her research on Technological Innovation in Sustainability in 2026.

Along with the development trend of science, technology and innovation, this year’s conference was hosted by the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City with the theme Sustainable Economic Growth - Business Ecosystem Orientation through Technology and Innovation. How to build a business ecosystem based on technology application and innovation with the goal of encouraging sustainable economic growth is the main topic discussed by young researchers around the world. Accordingly, the intended results are not only evaluated by profits but by the health of the community, the prosperity of society and the happiness of residents around the globe.

With this meaning, the Conference attracted special attention from the academic community with more than 200 guests who are domestic and international young researchers, lecturers, university leaders, and leading experts in economics and business. 225 articles were submitted, of which 188 articles were accepted to be published in the conference proceedings and 70 articles were accepted to be presented at the Conference from authors from domestic universities as well as many countries around the world such as Korea, China, Japan, etc., which shows that the prestige and reputation of the conference is increasingly enhanced in the academic community.

Speaking at the opening of the program, Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - President of UEH - emphasized: "The 9th annual International Conference for Young Researchers in Economics & Business 2023 marks an important milestone in the common commitment to our mission of enhancing knowledge and empowering young researchers in the field of Economics and Business. Today, we work together towards a common vision of nurturing the spirit of sustainable, innovative and socially impactful research. The theme of this year's conference is "Sustainable economic growth - Driving the business ecosystem with technology and innovation", which also highlights two main goals. It is hoped to harness the potential of young researchers by providing them with a platform to showcase noteworthy research works. At the same time, we aim to foster an environment where innovation thrives. As one of the country's leading public universities, it is our responsibility to leverage that potential towards a more sustainable future.”

The main topics presented at the Conference included:

  • "Future-Proofing Economy: How Distributed and Sustainable Economies Drive UN SDGs" by Professor. Dr. Chris Schinckus.
  • "Sustainable Economic Growth Developing Business Ecosystem Leveraging Technology and Innovation" by Dr. Lesly Goh.

In addition, there are 15 parallel discussion sessions with topics: (i) Management, Trade, and Tourism; (ii) Finance, Banking and Accounting; (iii) Economics, Development Economics; (iv) Law; and (v) Innovation and Technology along with the pre-conference topic "How to make your research paper stand out?" taking place on October 26, 2023.

In particular, within the framework of the Conference, representatives of the 10 co-organizing units had an intimate meeting, discussed, agreed, and handed over the flag to the next unit to host the Conference. The 10th annual International Conference for Young Researchers in Economics and Business (ICYREB) takes place in 2024 at Foreign Trade University.

Through the Conference, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) hopes it will be an opportunity for young researchers to present their research, learn from experienced researchers, build networks, as well as explore new research trends, creating motivation to promote capacity and develop future research careers while contributing intellectual values to the sustainable development of society.
