Asia Conference on Business and Economic Studies 2018 - Connecting Vietnam, regional and global research community

On 8th and 9th Sep 2018, at 59C Nguyen Dinh Chieu St., the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Asia Conference on Business and Economic Studies (ACBES) was firstly organized by Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES), sponsored by the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) Vietnam.

Attending the Opening Ceremony of ACBES 2018 were the world-class Keynote Speakers of leading universities: Prof. Christophe Schinckus - RMIT Vietnam, University of Leicester, UK; Prof. Gabriel S. Lee - University of Regensburg, IREBS, Germany; Prof. Steven D. Brown - The Open University, UK; Dr. Marta Gasparin - University of Leicester, UK; Dr. Jo Bensemann - Massey University, New Zealand; and Dr. Kiatanantha Lounkaew - Thammasat University, Thailand.

On the UEH’s side, there were Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Vice President; Prof. Su Dinh Thanh - Editor-in-Chief of JABES; Dr. Nguyen Phuc Canh - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of JABES.

In addition, ACBES 2018 welcomed over 150 researchers, professors, lecturers, PhDs from various countries, especially countries of the Asia-Pacific Region (UK, USA, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, India, Nigeria, Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Vietnam.)

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai emphasized: Business and Economics are, in fact, one of the most rapidly growing fields in research in Asia and in many other parts of the world. In which, sustainable development is always a long-term aim of Economics and Business, it is also a challenging issue for all countries from now and in the future. UEH is honored to welcome all of the scientists, researchers, economists, lecturers, and Ph.D. Candidates; especially, UEH thanks to 6 Keynote Speakers who attend and present as well as discuss at the ACBES 2018.

As you know, UEH has an ambitious strategy to become a research, training and consultation center in Economics, Business, Management, and Law, on par with other prestigious higher education institutions in Asia, UEH always encourages international publication in order to contribute to global knowledge. Therefore, ACBES 2018 is a truly great chance for scientists, researchers, economists, lecturers, and Ph.D.Candidates to present and discuss the key importance of sustainable economic and business development for the prosperity of a country and the region.

Prof. Su Dinh Thanh - Editor-in-Chief of JABES highly appreciated the good number of well-presented papers from professional researchers, lecturers, and practitioners. Most of submitted papers to ACBES 2018 have employed and developed earlier literature on a few certain economic branches of Business and Economics. The accepted papers also generate significant empirical findings, logically applied to the real context from a country to different regions and cities. On this occasion, Prof. Su Dinh Thanh also called for your participation as reviewers, who are expected to collaborate with our Journal staff and contribute amply to the improved content of JABES. One recent milestone was that English version of JABES had been officially published on Emerald publisher from May 2018. For further tremendous achievements, JABES highly appreciated your advocacy of the journal in its progress of reaching a farther community and becoming a scientific journal to be listed in Scopus database in near future.

Historically, ACBES was organized under the name as International Conference of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (ICUEH) from 2016 to 2017 by Journal of Economic Development and UEH which was a platform for foreign and domestic scientists in economics in order to share the researches results relating to economic growth and sustainable growth issue, as well as implied policy for authorities. In 2018, as the change in Journal of Economic Development to Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies, ICUEH is restructured and organised on a yearly basis, which now has the named of Asia Conference on Business and Economic Studies with the aim of expanding the fields and opportunities for researchers from Asia.

After more than 7 months of calling for submissions to the conference, ACBES 2018 received over 160 papers in which, 91 high-qualified ones were selected, presented and discussed at the conference.

With the effort of the Organizers committee and the sponsor of organizations, the 1st ACBES 2018 is larger than previous ICUEHs with the successful pre-event 1st Publishing Workshop (05-07 September 2018).

ACBES 2018 was genuinely a great opportunity for researchers, lecturers, PhDs; especially for those early in their careers to present research papers, connect and discuss together and with the leading experts. This results in connecting the research community of Vietnam with Asia-Pacific and world. Besides, JABES also selected and attracted more papers from researchers in the area of Business and Economics from Vietnam, region and world.
