Closing ceremony of the knowledge-fostering and updating program to improve executive competence for leaders and managers of Dong Nai province 2023

Recently, on the afternoon of November 3, 2023, at Hall A of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) in coordination with the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee to solemnly organize the closing ceremony of the "Knowledge-fostering and updating program to improve executive competence for leaders and managers of Dong Nai Province in 2023" with the theme "Improving leadership and management competence to promote competitiveness and sustainable development for localities in the context of global economic integration" for 45 learners who are Directors of Departments/Devisions/Services, Heads of Committees under the People's Council, Chairmen of People's Committees of districts/cities under the Province, Presidents and General Directors of companies under the People's Committee of Dong Nai Province.

Summarizing the course, Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - UEH President - shared: "In order to organize the training course responding to the call of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, UEH conducted in-depth interviews with leaders of 15 Departments/Divisions/Services, Industrial Park Management Board, and Business Association to identify bottlenecks and inadequacies in the province's socio-economic development, thereby building a separate training program with 9 topics to update knowledge of competitiveness and sustainable development for Dong Nai province in the context of global economic integration. Despite your busy work, you spend your valuable time attending the classrooms, studying very seriously, and enthusiastically discussing the contents with the teaching team to overcome short-term difficulties and challenges as well as a long-term vision towards sustainable development. The results achieved in the training course stem from the attention, support, and facilitation of the Standing Committee of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee. I, on behalf of UEH leaders, send my sincere thanks to your affiliations.” At the Closing Ceremony, Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh was pleased to share information regarding the upgrade of the University of Economics of Ho Chi Minh City according to Decision No. 1146/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. Accordingly, UEH officially became one of the seven higher education institutions in Vietnam operating under the model of a "multidisciplinary university", consistent and integrated with the system of advanced universities in the world. This is a development step from endogenous capacity accumulated over nearly 50 years of establishment, in accordance with practical requirements in Vietnam and the development trend of universities in the world.

Within the framework of the Closing Ceremony, Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Vice President of UEH summarized the knowledge-updated and training program through the results of collecting student opinions on classroom organization, program content, teaching, and achieved results, general understanding and feelings on each topic. More than 90% of opinions from the learners were Agree and Strongly Agree as indicated in the survey, partly showing that the program met the expectations of students. Dr. Dinh Cong Khai affirmed: “UEH leaders and lecturers are always ready to accompany and coordinate with a proactive, positive, and effective spirit in research, consulting, training and fostering, and nursing staff at all levels of Dong Nai province".

Appreciating the results of the course, Mr. Ho Thanh Son - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Classroom Steering Committee stated that he highly appreciated the teaching and learning methods of the class. UEH not only designed a classroom with presentations but also created a discussion space so that lecturers and students can work together to clarify and solve problems in each area and each field. The class met the goals and requirements set out under the direction of the Standing Committee and the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee. With the knowledge synthesized and summarized from the 9 topics of the course, students would continue to make efforts to train themselves and apply their acquired knowledge to the practice of the area and field the local authorities are in charge of so as to innovate working methods, change ways of directing and operating in a creative and effective direction, strive to successfully complete tasks for the goal of building an increasingly developed Dong Nai province.

The knowledge fostering and updating program to improve executive competence for leaders and managers of Dong Nai Province 2023 was specifically developed by UEH with the aim of improving planning, administrative and development policies for leaders and managers to meet sustainable development requirements for Dong Nai province in the 2021-2025 term and prepare leadership and management personnel for the next term. The program created opportunities to connect and to share experiences in the field with leading experts who were experiential lecturers; concurrently, to listen to students' feedback in order to improve the quality of the course.

The program was structured in 9 topics, taking place from October 6 to November 3, 2023, associated with the reality of Dong Nai Province: (1) Competitiveness and sustainable development strategies in Dong Nai province in the context of global economic integration; (2) Planning and implementing sustainable development policies; (3) Human resource management in public organizations; (4) Agricultural value chain applying high technology and market linkage activities; (5) Digital transformation management in the public sector: Opportunities and challenges; (6) Developing smart cities associated with industrialization and modernization to promote sustainable development in Dong Nai; (7) Innovative leadership in the context of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution; (8) Strategies for enhancing the competences of Dong Nai tourism cluster in the context of Industry 4.0; and (9) International economic integration and globalization - Policy issues for Dong Nai.
